BRILLIANT TEAM PERFORMANCE AND VICTORY IN MEDVODE

With the victory in Medvode, the Portorož team mathematically secured their stay in the second division and regained their participation in the playoffs for the champion. The Intermediate Arena was not heated in such a way that it took the Mariners almost fifteen minutes to adjust to the unfavorable conditions for the game. In the first quarter, the teams played defenseless, and the home team did better in the run and gun game.
The Mariners, however, quickly took the lead – in the 3rd minute it was (5-10). An 11-0 run by the hosts followed for a 16-10 lead.
After a minute of break, Portorož came closer with a three by Rogelja and a basket by Škerbec to +1 (16:15). After that, the hosts made another series 8:0 for 24:15, and the quarter ended with a basket by the captain of Portorož Cvetičanin for 24:17.
In the first attack of the second quarter, the hosts took the lead – 26-17. 8 consecutive baskets by Škrbac followed, and the Mariners cut the lead to 28-26. From the 14th minute until halftime, the collective play of the sailors in defense and attack came to the fore, baskets were scored consecutively by Klibarda, Končar and Svit Rogelja with a three by captain Cvetičanin, Portorož reached the highest lead of +7 (38:45) in the 19th minute, and the half ended with the lead of Portorož (44:49). In the second half, the Portorožani stepped up the pace and ended the third quarter (57:69) with a three-pointer by Luka Krmac.
In the final quarter, the Mariners completely disabled the hosts with a zone defense and with a partial score (10:25) in the end deservedly won for the final 67:94.

With the victory, Portorož overtook the Litija team in the standings and currently holds the 7th place.
On Friday at 8 p.m., the Ježice team is a guest in Portorož, and in the last round, the Portorož team plays in Novo mesto against the Trots.
