Defeat of the members in Nova Gorica

Portorož also arrived in Gorizia weakened, without captain Cvetičanin and with the injured Kavgič, who did not enter the game.

In a tied match, Portorožani lost to Gorica in the final. The start of the game belonged to the hosts, who quickly took the lead by 8 points. Thanks to Škerbec, the guests got closer to -4 by halftime.

In the second period, Portorož took the initiative after the turnaround and went into the break with +5 (30:35). In the third period, which was tied again, the guests made a higher margin at the end and the highest lead + 9 (44:53).
In the last quarter, the hosts limited the effect of Škerbec and Rogelja with aggressive defense, allowing only 4 points to the guests in eight minutes and with a partial score of 16:4 they came to the lead 60:57. In those moments, the unsolvable puzzle for Portorož was the home center Petejan.  

The Portorožans finished many of their attacks with 3-point shots, but they were unsuccessful ( 9:35 , 26%) and thus allow the locals to take the initiative and lead. In the final minute, A. Rogelja was fouled on a 3-point shot at 64:61. He hit the first two free throws, missing the third. The visitors committed a quick foul on Borset, who made two free throws for a 66-63 lead. On the next offense, the hosts stopped A. Rogelja with a foul, who hit 2 free throws with 5 seconds left for a 66-65 lead. After a quick foul by the visitors over the Strongman, the latter scored 3 seconds before the end of the second free throw for 67:65. With three seconds remaining, the ball came to L. Krmac, who threw toward the basket nearly halfway through and narrowly missed the shot for the win. With the defeat, Portorož landed on the 9th place in the standings in the “Play-Out zone”.


During the week, Portorož is away to the favoured Janče (postponed match of the 12th round), the second remaining match between Litija and Slovan will also be played. On Saturday, Portorož hosts the Litija team in their first home game of 2023.
