In the return match of the Spar Cup, our members were defeated in Ljubljana and ended this year's cup appearances.
Until the 36th minute of the match, the course of the result movement was similar to the first match in Portorož, which Portorož won by a point. The Illyrians were in a constant lead, even up to 10 points difference, and the Portorožans chased them and repeatedly came to a minimal difference. With four minutes left in the score at 65-61 for Illyria, the Portorožans got the ball and launched a counterattack. Meanwhile, in the middle of the pitch without the ball, two opposing defenders became entangled in contact and both lay on the ground. Despite the fact that the unsportsmanlike mistake was made by the defender of Illyria, the referee only saw the reaction of the Portorožan and awarded him an unsportsmanlike mistake. Thus, Ilirija got two free throws, possession of the ball and the score broke - instead of -2 to -8. As a result of this referee's decision, the nervous Portorožans were unable to react again and were ineffective with quick finishes, which the hosts punished with easy baskets, so that in the end the difference was 15 points. Nevertheless, KD Ilirija deservedly advanced to the next round of the Spar Cup. Portorož will have a chance for a rematch on Saturday, October 19, when the championship match of the 2nd SKL will be scheduled - also in the Tivoli Hall.
